Description

216cc Tillotson/Ducar Ghostbuster Engine – Modified Ghost 212 Performance Engine

The 216cc Tillotson/Ducar Ghostbuster Engine is built for racers and performance enthusiasts seeking more power than a stock Ghost 212 without sacrificing reliability, drivability, or throttle response. Designed for mini bikes, go-karts, kart racing, drift trikes, and recreational performance applications, the Ghostbuster combines increased displacement, improved airflow, and carefully selected performance components to deliver stronger acceleration, increased torque, and a broader powerband throughout the RPM range.

Unlike a conventional 212cc engine that utilizes a 70mm bore x 55mm stroke (211.67cc), the Ghostbuster features a 70mm bore x 56mm stroke crankshaft, increasing displacement to 215.51cc. The additional stroke improves cylinder filling and piston speed, producing stronger low-end torque, improved mid-range acceleration, and increased overall engine efficiency.

Reinforced Ducar  Block

The Ghostbuster is built around the proven Ducar 70mm block platform, the same heavy-duty casting used in the Ghost 212, Ducar 212, and Tillotson 212E engines. These blocks feature additional reinforcement around the cylinder barrel and crankcase compared to traditional Honda-clone castings, providing improved durability for higher-performance applications.

Because the engine utilizes the popular Ducar-style architecture and external appearance, it integrates seamlessly into Ghost 212-based racing and recreational builds while offering a significant performance advantage through its upgraded internal components.

High-Flow Tillotson Performance Cylinder Head

At the heart of the Ghostbuster is the legendary Tillotson 212R / 225RS cylinder head, widely regarded as one of the best-performing stock-style clone cylinder heads available.

Key features include:

  • Large 27mm intake valve
  • Large 25mm exhaust valve
  • Improved port design and airflow
  • Stronger casting for performance applications
  • Excellent foundation for future upgrades

The combination of:

  • Tillotson 212R / 225RS Cylinder Head
  • 22cc combustion chamber
  • Flat-top piston
  • Near-zero deck height
  • .045" head gasket

Produces an efficient 9.0:1 compression ratio, delivering excellent throttle response, strong torque, and compatibility with premium pump gasoline.

Included Performance Components

Tuned PZ22 Carburetor

The Ghostbuster includes a specially calibrated PZ22 carburetor, similar in design to the popular Ghost 212 carburetor but optimized for the increased airflow requirements of the 216cc package.

Benefits include:

  • Crisp throttle response
  • Improved fuel atomization
  • Strong low-end torque
  • Excellent drivability
  • Consistent performance throughout the RPM range

Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel

A lightweight cast aluminum flywheel improves engine responsiveness while advancing ignition timing to approximately 20° BTDC, compared to the typical 14–17° found in most stock flywheels.

Advantages include:

  • Faster acceleration
  • Reduced rotating mass
  • Improved ignition timing curve
  • Enhanced durability compared to stock cast-iron flywheels

TTS-647 Performance Camshaft

The included TTS-647 camshaft features .255" valve lift and increased duration over the factory Ghost camshaft.

This proven grind provides:

  • Improved cylinder filling
  • Stronger mid-range power
  • Increased top-end horsepower
  • Broader powerband
  • Excellent street and track manners

6200 RPM Rev-Limited Ignition Coil

To maximize durability with the stock connecting rod, the Ghostbuster is equipped with a 6200 RPM rev-limited ignition coil.

This setup allows the engine to safely utilize its performance enhancements while maintaining long-term reliability.

For higher RPM racing applications, we recommend upgrading to:

  • EC 8270 Billet Connecting Rod
  • 138190045 Non-Limited Ignition Coil

Tillotson 212R / 225RS Cylinder Head

The Tillotson head remains one of the most sought-after upgrades in the clone engine market due to its exceptional airflow, combustion efficiency, and durability. Combined with the stroker crankshaft and performance camshaft, it helps the Ghostbuster produce substantially more usable power than a stock Ghost 212.

Why Choose the 216cc Ghostbuster?

Compared to a stock Ghost 212, the Ghostbuster delivers:

  • Increased displacement for greater torque
  • Improved acceleration across the entire RPM range
  • Higher-flow cylinder head
  • Performance camshaft upgrade
  • Increased ignition timing
  • Faster throttle response
  • Stronger mid-range and top-end power
  • Excellent reliability and drivability

The result is an engine that feels stronger everywhere in the powerband while remaining easy to tune, easy to drive, and ready for future upgrades.

Fuel System Recommendations

Important Fuel Tank Information

Many stock fuel tanks do not provide adequate venting for higher-performance engines. Insufficient tank ventilation can cause fuel delivery issues, inconsistent tuning, poor idle quality, and difficult starting.

When using a gravity-fed fuel system:

  • Ensure the fuel tank is properly vented.
  • Do not use a one-way check valve in the tank vent.
  • Additional idle and fuel mixture adjustments may be required.
  • Improper venting can lead to fuel starvation and inconsistent performance.

For the most consistent tuning and performance, we recommend using a properly vented racing fuel tank designed for karting, mini bike, or performance small-engine applications.

FAQ

What is the 216cc Ghostbuster Engine?

The Ghostbuster is a modified Ghost-style performance engine built around the reinforced Ducar block platform. It combines a 56mm stroker crankshaft, Tillotson 212R cylinder head, performance camshaft, and tuned carburetor to produce more torque and stronger acceleration than a stock Ghost 212.

How much displacement does the Ghostbuster Engine have?

The engine displaces 215.51cc using a 70mm bore and 56mm stroke crankshaft. A typical 212 engine uses a 70mm bore and 55mm stroke for 211.67cc.

Is the Ghostbuster more powerful than a stock Ghost 212?

Yes. The increased displacement, improved cylinder head airflow, optimized ignition timing, and performance camshaft produce stronger low-end torque, improved mid-range acceleration, and greater overall performance than a stock Ghost 212.

What cylinder head is used on the Ghostbuster?

The Ghostbuster utilizes the Tillotson 212R / 225RS cylinder head featuring 27mm intake and 25mm exhaust valves. It is widely regarded as one of the best-flowing stock-style clone cylinder heads available.

What compression ratio does the engine have?

The combination of a flat-top piston, 22cc combustion chamber, near-zero deck height, and .045-inch head gasket produces approximately 9.0:1 compression.

What carburetor comes with the engine?

The engine includes a specially calibrated PZ22 carburetor optimized for the airflow and displacement requirements of the 216cc package.

What camshaft is included?

The Ghostbuster features the TTS-647 performance camshaft with .255-inch valve lift and increased duration over the stock Ghost camshaft for improved power throughout the RPM range.

What is the engine's RPM limit?

The engine is equipped with a 6200 RPM rev-limited ignition coil to help maximize durability when using the stock connecting rod.

Can the Ghostbuster be upgraded for higher RPM operation?

Yes. Installing an EC 8270 billet connecting rod and a non-limited 138190045 ignition coil allows the engine to safely operate at higher RPM levels when properly tuned.

Does the engine include a fuel tank?

No. The Ghostbuster Engine does not include a fuel tank.

Does the engine include a top plate?
