6200 RPM Rev-Limited Ignition Coil – Honda GX200 / Clone / Predator Engines
The 6200 RPM Rev-Limited Coil is an excellent choice for spec-class kart racing and recreational performance builds, offering reliable RPM control to maintain safety, fairness, and engine longevity. This coil is ideal for Junior 3 and Cadet classes using blue .550" restrictor plates, as well as amateur or controlled-stock adult classes where speed management is key.
Designed for Controlled Speed and Engine Protection
The 6200 RPM limit effectively reduces overall kart speed, particularly important for lightweight junior classes, while still taking advantage of the strong low-end torque produced by OHV engines, even with restricted airflow. While the restrictor plate reduces power output, the rev-limited coil ensures top-end RPMs stay in check. For even tighter speed regulation, race organizers can implement gear ratio and/or tire circumference rules alongside the coil.
In adult amateur or non-restrictor classes, this coil offers a controlled alternative to unrestricted builds. At 6200 RPM, stock cast connecting rods perform reliably and benefit from significantly improved longevity compared to engines revving beyond 7000 RPM.
Installation & Setup Recommendations:
- Best used with stock cast aluminum flywheels, such as the 138210105 model.
- Avoid using with aftermarket flywheels featuring neo magnets, as prolonged use will damage the coil.
- Use single ground strap spark plugs(recommended Torch K7RTI or similar fine wire iridium spark plugs), gapped between .027"–.034".
- Avoid multi-ground plugs or very tight gaps, as these can cause erratic RPM surges that may exceed the coil’s limit.
- Spark plug tech is recommended for karting classes to maintain fair competition.
Technical Specs:
- Rev Limit: 6200 RPM ±100 RPM tolerance
- Coil Air Gap: .012"–.018" (when used with stock cast aluminum flywheels)
Engine Compatibility:
- Honda / Clone Engines: GX160, GX200, 196cc clones
- Predator Engines: 212 Hemi, 224 Non-Hemi (The coil fits 212 Non-Hemi. The recommended cast aluminum flywheel taper does not fit the Predator 212 Non-Hemi, which has a slightly different taper than the Honda/Clone)
- Ducar Engines: 196, 212, 224
- Tillotson Engines: 196cc – 268cc
- Wildcat Engines: 223, 240
This coil is an innovative and effective way to control speed, extend engine life, and promote competitive balance in junior or beginner-level racing classes, without sacrificing engine reliability or affordability.
