Description

794111A 90-Degree Right Angle Gearbox – Vertical to Horizontal Engine Conversion for Race Mowers

The 794111A 90° Right Angle Gearbox is the go-to choice for serious builders and racers in the FXT (Outlaw Twin)and FXS (Outlaw Single) classes. Designed to convert a vertical shaft engine to a horizontal output, this gearbox offers a simpler, stronger alternative to traditional multi-gear transmissions like the 700 series—with fewer moving parts and less maintenance.

Ideal for high-speed racing lawnmowers where rules allow, this OE-style gearbox is rugged and dependable when used within its original design limits. For maximum durability and performance, we highly recommend pairing it with the 794-GBSK upgrade kit, which includes a longer output shaft, support bearing, and weldable mounting plate.

Technical Specs:

  • Input Shaft: 7/8" diameter
  • Output Shaft: 7/8" diameter
  • Gearbox Type: 90° right angle, OE-style
  • Recommended Upgrade Kit: 794-GBSK (sold separately)

Important Disclaimer:

This gearbox is sold as-is with no warranty—intended originally for direct-drive lawnmower blades, not high-performance racing.

  • Max Input Speed: 3600 RPM
  • Max HP Rating: 10–13 HP
  • Max Static Torque: 100 ft-lbs

Use in racing or beyond OEM specs is entirely at your own risk.

FAQ

Q1: What does the 794111A gearbox do?

It converts a vertical shaft engine (like those found in standard lawnmowers) to drive a horizontal axle, which is required in most FXT and FXS racing mower builds.

Q2: What are the input and output shaft sizes?

Both the input and output shafts are 7/8" in diameter. A 1/4" keyway is typically used for secure coupling.

Q3: Is this gearbox designed for racing use?

No. This is an OEM-grade gearbox originally designed for direct blade drives on lawnmowers. It was not built for racing, which is why it's sold without a warranty.

Q4: What are the limitations of this gearbox?

It’s rated for:

  • 10–13 HP max
  • 100 ft-lbs of static torque
  • 3600 RPM max input speed

Using it outside these limits may lead to failure with no warranty coverage.

Q5: How can I improve this gearbox's durability in a race setup?

Use the 794-GBSK upgrade kit, which includes a longer output shaft, support bearing, and a weldable mounting plate to reduce shaft flex and increase reliability under racing loads.
