EC designed the HL-357A as a stock replacement methanol carburetor to address the problems with stock fuel tanks cracking and damaging the stock carburetor in the process. Built around the same amount of flow made by the stock carburetor. The Red 440INT is designed to prevent any modification to the intake that would gain airflow. You could say EC created one of the first spec 4-cycle kart classes.

If you are looking at the length of the intake as a way of port length tuning for the engine, there are a few things you need to know. The Tillotson carburetor, being a diaphragm pump carburetor, needs a good vacuum or pulse signal from the intake. If you make your intake too long, then you lose signal to the carburetor and potentially hinder its tuning and performance. Tuning your port runner length is more of an exact science than many realize, and simply adding more length doesn't always net the gains you want; where you want. Your carburetor, head ports, and cam timing, as well as where you want your engine to gain, are all part of the science of port tuning. Unless you have the equipment, time, and money, it's difficult to test the theory, and your gains may be minimal.
