Description

Wildcat 223 On-Board Electric Starter – For GX200 & Clone Engines with Ring Gear Flywheels

The Wildcat 223 On-Board Electric Starter is designed to start small engines equipped with flywheels that include a ring gear. It is compatible with both stock cast-iron flywheels and aftermarket billet flywheels that feature integrated starter ring gears. This compact electric starter is ideal for stock and mildly modified engines, offering push-button convenience without the need for pull-starting.

NOTE: High-compression or race engines without a compression release may exceed the capabilities of this starter. For those applications, we recommend using a high-torque handheld starter system.

Compatibility:

  • Honda GX200
  • Predator 212 / 224 (with ring gear flywheel)
  • Ducar 196 / 224
  • Wildcat 223 / 240

Note: Tillotson R-Series engines require custom machining and housing modifications to support onboard electric starters.

Charging Note:

While aftermarket billet flywheels may have ring gears for starting, they typically do not include charging magnets for powering electronics or charging batteries. To enable charging, use a cast-iron flywheel with integrated magnets. However, these cast-iron flywheels are limited to stock RPM use (= 5,000 RPM). Exceeding this limit may lead to flywheel failure, engine damage, or serious injury.

Key Features:

  • Compatible with flywheels featuring starter ring gears
  • Supports easy electric starting on most stock and mild engines
  • Ideal for mini bikes, go-karts, and other small engine builds
  • Compact, reliable design for GX200-style engines

FAQ

Q1: What type of flywheel do I need for this starter to work?
A1: You need a flywheel with an integrated ring gear—either a stock cast-iron flywheel (with charging magnets) or an aftermarket billet flywheel that includes a ring gear.

Q2: Will this starter work with a high-compression race engine?
A2: It may struggle with engines that have high compression or aggressive camshafts lacking a compression release. For those builds, we recommend a handheld high-torque starter.

Q3: Can this starter charge my battery?
A3: No. This starter does not handle charging. To charge a battery, your engine must also have a charging coil and a flywheel with magnets. Aftermarket billet flywheels often lack this capability.

Q4: What engines are compatible with this starter?
A4: This starter is compatible with:

  • Honda GX200
  • Predator 212 / 224 (with ring gear flywheel)
  • Ducar 196 / 224
  • Wildcat 223 / 240
Note: Tillotson R-Series engines require custom modification for onboard starters, including housing and mounting changes.

Q5: Can I use this starter on a Predator 212 engine?
A5: Yes—if the engine is equipped with a flywheel that has a ring gear. Factory Predator engines typically do not come with this flywheel pre-installed.

Q6: Is installation easy?
A6: Installation requires minor mechanical skill and access to the correct starter-compatible flywheel. You may need to change or modify the blower housing to accommodate the starter motor.
