EC VG-15K Hi-Rev Kit – Briggs Vanguard V-Twin (Models 35 & 38)


The EC VG-15K Hi-Rev Kit is engineered to raise the RPM ceiling of your Briggs & Stratton Vanguard V-Twin Model 35 (18–20 HP) and Model 38 (21–23 HP) engines when the governor linkage has been modified for higher RPM operation. Ideal for mild performance builds, or enthusiasts looking to extract more power without a full engine teardown.


This kit helps stabilize the valvetrain at elevated RPM by increasing valve spring pressure using precision shims. It also includes an offset timing key for advanced ignition timing and OEM steel pushrods for improved strength over stock aluminum. Together, these components support up to 5,000 RPM safely when paired with a stock camshaft.


Kit Includes:

  • 1 Offset Timing Key (clockwise – for ignition timing advance)
  • 2 OEM Steel Pushrods (replaces weaker aluminum rods)
  • 4 Valve Spring Shims (increases spring seat pressure)
  • 4 Steel Retainers & Split Locks/Keepers


Fitment Notes:

  • Compatible only with Vanguard V-Twins using split lock valve retainers.
  • Not compatible with early engines using slip-on retainers unless upgraded valves are installed.
