Description

EC Stage 1 Performance Kit for Wildcat 223 – Bolt-On Power, No Internal Mods

Unlock more power from your Wildcat 223 with EC’s Stage 1 Performance Kit—engineered to replace restrictive emissions components with high-flow, better-tuned upgrades. Designed for riders and racers seeking noticeable gains without engine modification, this bolt-on kit is ideal for trail cruising, daily driving, or preparing for more advanced builds.

Stage 1 is all about external performance improvements—air, fuel, ignition—without touching the internals. You’ll retain the factory throttle linkage and governor (unless modified), meaning no extra parts or complicated installs.

What’s Included in the EC Stage 1 Kit for Wildcat 223?

Tillotson PK High-Flow Stock Carburetor

  • One of the best-flowing stock carbs available—banned in some karting classes due to performance advantages
  • Improved throttle response and mid-range torque with low-speed tuning via idle mixture screw
  • Better main jet calibration for stock or mild camshafts
  • Optional upgrade: PK-660 CNC Ported Carburetor for more power with cammed engines

Tuning Notes:

  • Best suited for engines running stock/mild cams and ~28° ignition timing, up to 6000 RPM
  • Engines running at high elevation (2000+ ft) or outside these parameters may require jet tuning (main jet kit available)
  • Do not use Autolite 3910X for gasoline builds—plug is too cold and leads to tuning issues

Velocity Stack & High-Flow Air Filter

  • Replaces restrictive factory air box for improved airflow
  • Enhances throttle response and stabilizes fuel signal
  • Helps maintain a consistent carburetor tune in varying conditions

Non-Rev Limited Ignition Coil

  • Replaces the 4000 RPM limited coil found on early Wildcat 223 engines
  • Unlocks the full RPM potential of your engine for improved performance
  • Recommended coil gap: .035" to .050"

Safety Warning

If you remove or modify the governor to exceed 3800 RPM, a billet flywheel is strongly recommended.
Factory cast iron flywheels are not SFI-certified and are unsafe for high-RPM use.
Also, use 22lb valve springs with the stock camshaft if removing the governor.

Exhaust Header Recommendations

Headers are not included in this kit to give you flexibility in selecting the right option for your build.
This kit is optimized for headers with an internal diameter of .870” or larger, with peak performance seen between .930”–.960” ID.

Recommended muffler: RLV 4106
Avoid screw-on lawnmower mufflers, “weenie” pipes, or restrictive backyard headers—they will severely reduce performance.

Why Choose EC’s Stage 1 Kit?

  • Easy bolt-on installation—no internal engine work required
  • Ideal for street cruising, trail riding, or stock-class karting
  • Proven dyno-tested parts selection for max performance per dollar
  • Keeps throttle linkage and governor intact (unless modified)

FAQ

What does the EC Stage 1 Kit do for the Wildcat 223?

It removes restrictive stock emissions parts and replaces them with high-flow, better-tuned components. This improves airflow, fuel delivery, and ignition performance—all without opening the engine.

Do I need to modify the engine internally to use this kit?

No. Stage 1 is 100% external. You don’t need to open the engine or change the cam, piston, or governor unless you want to take performance further.

Will my stock throttle linkage still work?

Yes, the kit retains compatibility with the stock throttle setup, requiring no additional parts or custom linkage.

What RPM limit does the stock coil have?

Early Wildcat 223 engines come with a coil limited to 4000 RPM. This kit includes a non-rev limited coil so your engine can rev higher safely—especially when paired with upgraded internals.

Is a billet flywheel required?

It’s highly recommended if you plan to raise or remove the governor and run above 3800 RPM. Cast iron flywheels are not safe at high RPMs and are not SFI-certified.

Do I need to rejet the carburetor?

In most cases, the included PK carburetor is pre-tuned for stock or mildly cammed engines with up to ~28° timing. If you're running at high elevation or with more aggressive setups, rejetting may be necessary. A main jet kit is available.

Are exhaust headers included?

No. To give you flexibility for your application, headers are sold separately. The kit is optimized for headers with .870"–.960" internal diameter. For muffled setups, use the RLV 4106 only.

Can I use this kit for trail riding or street cruising?

Yes! It’s designed for anyone who wants a low-maintenance, stock-reliable engine with a noticeable increase in power—perfect for casual riding or light competition.
