The Latest Advanced Billet Side Cover from EC Carburetors for Honda-Clone Engines

We've made updates to our billet side covers.

PCV Valve—We've removed the Pressure Control Valves from the Kit. Many people using our side covers with stock fuel tanks and those not using the PCV on the side cover requested the removal. If you want to use a PCV with our side cover, you can use the 280 valves in the top oil fill hole.

Pressure Control Valves help relieve crankcase pressure, ideally creating negative pressure to improve the ring seal. Usually, you want the PCV at the highest point on the engine, making the valve cover the preferred location. Building the PCV into the side cover is generally easier for guys who couldn't put a PCV in the valve cover. In most cases, the PCV was recirculated to the valve cover, defeating the valve's purpose. The PCV should always go to a catch can that is vented to the atmosphere. By removing the PCV, we're resolving confusion and simplifying the setup. We kept the pulse fitting for those who need to use it for oil recirculation, such as in situations where the oil hole is blocked off in the block or cylinder head. It can also be used for a pulse fuel pump.

Oil Fill and Dipstick: Based on customer feedback, we've made small adjustments to the oil fill holes over the years. We are now only using the oil fill on the top of the side cover, which clears most fuel tanks and doesn't interfere with onboard electric starters. We've also made a billet dipstick for the front of the billet side cover. The front oil hole is often the most accessible on racing go-karts and mini-bikes, so we removed the rear oil hole as it wasn't necessary and would require another oil cap.

Anodizing: The oil fill and dipstick are black anodized, which does more than add aesthetics. Anodizing helps to prevent galling and reduces the chance of the oil fill cap and dipstick from sticking or seizing in the side cover, which makes installing and removing the parts smooth and trouble-free.

We still have the market's most advanced billet side cover with important performance features.

Oil Capacity: One of the most significant advantages is our oil sump capacity. Unlike many billet side covers, we maintain the original engine oil capacity. Other Billet side covers reduce the engine's oil capacity by making the side cover flat on its inside.

What does this mean, and why is it an advantage? At the same volume(Most engines run 12-16oz), our side cover will have less parasitic losses caused by windage than a side cover that reduces its sump volume. Your oil should contain an additive package suited to your engine, allowing better performance and protection, including friction reducers and wear inhibitors, among many other properties. These additives do a better job when more are available, especially when the heat breaks down the oil. Your oil also works as a heat sink to cool the engine. More oil takes longer to heat, meaning a cooler-running engine and less oil breakdown over time. Again, the more oil you can run and keep in the engine, the better.

O-ring: The EC Billet Side Cover also has a machined groove around the perimeter, allowing better crankcase sealing with an O-ring. We stabilize the side cover using two solid pins to replace the hollow stock pins and secure it with 8Mx35 cap screws or upgrade your hardware with our EC Stud Kit. For the most strength, we recommend using Tillotson-reinforced blocks. We designed the New Tillotson blocks as the ultimate track weapon using our new EC Products.

Camshaft Bearing—Most side covers ride on bare aluminum or bronze bushings. Using a steel bearing means less wear and reduced friction. The bearings are usually easier to replace, so you can enjoy using your side covers for many years without issues.

Studs(Optional) - Standard Hardware uses socket cap screws, but the side cover is designed to allow studs. If you choose to use studs, install the billet side cover with the solid dowels first to help the studs align themselves. This procedure will allow the side cover to be installed and removed more easily. If the studs are installed before the side cover, the studs may twist in the block and become misaligned, which may make the side cover difficult and may damage your block and side cover.
