Description

1/2-20 Hex Head King Pin Bolt – 4.5" Zinc-Plated for Racing Go-Karts & Mowers

The 1/2-20 Hex Head King Pin Bolt (4.5" length) is a critical component for securing spindles to front axles on racing lawnmowers, go-karts, minibikes, and other performance chassis. Used in conjunction with heim joints or caster blocks, this kingpin allows precise control over camber and caster angle adjustments for optimized front-end geometry.

This bolt is featured in our EC front axle kits but is also compatible with many custom front axles. With a right-hand thread and zinc-plated finish, it's built to resist corrosion and handle the rigors of competitive use.

If you're building a custom chassis and unsure of your kingpin inclination (KPI) geometry, we recommend using one of our fully adjustable EC front axles to simplify setup and ensure proper handling characteristics.

FAQ

What is a king pin bolt used for on a go-kart or race mower?

The king pin bolt secures the spindle to the front axle and allows it to pivot, enabling the steering motion. It’s also critical for caster and camber adjustment using heims or caster blocks.

What does the 1/2-20 thread size mean?

It refers to a 1/2-inch diameter with 20 threads per inch, which is a fine thread, commonly used in racing and performance hardware for better holding strength and adjustment control.

Is this bolt compatible with EC front axle kits?

Yes, this is the standard king pin bolt used in our EC front axle assemblies, and it’s also suitable for many other custom or stock setups.

What length is the bolt and is it zinc-coated?

This bolt is 4.5 inches long and zinc-plated to protect against rust and wear in harsh racing environments.

Can I use this for caster and camber adjustments?

Yes. When paired with heim joints or caster blocks, this bolt allows for precise tuning of spindle inclination for handling optimization.
