As airspeed and air pressure change in the carburetor, the emulsion tube controls the air and fuel mixture as the throttle shutter opens and closes and as the RPMs of the engine change. In karting, there are regulations on the length and orifice dimensions to control the carburetor's performance.

AKRA 2020 Rules for the Emulsion Tube
Stock emulsion tube must be used and unaltered, .066” max ID(NO-GO). Side holes in E-Tube 4 holes in bottom section max and must have 20 holes in the middle section. Minimum E-Tube length of 1.092.” The minimum protrusion of the e-tube into the venturi must be check by the NO-GO gauge Huayi .488”, Tillotson .488” or RuiXing .479”. Minimum length Outside Diameter of the E-Tube at any point is .154”. Side Holes in the e-tube diameter .036” no-go.

18.104.22.168.1: Through-hole maximum ID of 0.066” No-Go.
22.214.171.124.2: Minimum length is 1.092” and must have 20 holes on top; the hole diameter must be 0.036” No-Go. Bottom holes can be either 2 or 4 holes. 81
