Description

Tillotson 212R 70mm Flat-Top Piston Kit for Honda/Clone Engines

This 70mm flat-top piston is designed for the Tillotson 212R and other 70mm bore Honda Clone engines. Ideal for stock or mild performance applications, this piston offers a standard .903” compression height (measured from wrist pin centerline to piston crown), which is the most common specification across 70mm clone platforms.

Important Fitment Note: If you are replacing a dished piston with this flat-top version, it’s critical to confirm your engine’s compression height and ensure compatibility with your connecting rod and crankshaft. Mismatched components can cause piston-to-head interference or poor performance.

Piston Specifications:

  • Bore Diameter: 2.7525" / 70mm
  • Wrist Pin Diameter: 0.709" / 18mm (actual: ~17.96mm)
  • Compression Height: 0.903" / 22.9mm
  • Crown Type: Flat-Top
  • Piston Assembly Weight: ~202g

Ring Specifications:

  • Top Ring: 1.0mm
  • Second Ring: 1.0mm
  • Oil Ring: 2.5mm

Included in Kit:

  • (1) 70mm Flat-Top Piston
  • (1) Complete Ring Set
  • (1) 18mm Wrist Pin (0.709")
  • (2) Circlips

Fits 70mm Bore Engines Including:

  • Wildcat 223
  • Tillotson 212
  • Ducar 212 / 224
  • Predator 212 (Hemi & Non-Hemi)
  • Predator 224 Hemi
  • Ghost 212

Note: While all these engines share a 70mm bore, piston compression height, crown shape, and wrist pin diameter can vary. Always measure and verify dimensions before installation to ensure compatibility with your rod and crankshaft setup.

FAQ

Q1: Will this piston fit a Predator 212 Hemi engine?
A: Yes, it fits most Predator 212 Hemi and Non-Hemi engines with a 70mm bore. However, you must confirm compression height and wrist pin diameter match your original setup.

Q2: What’s the difference between a flat-top and dished piston?
A: A flat-top piston has a flat crown, increasing compression and performance potential. A dished piston has a recessed center, which generally lowers compression. Switching to a flat-top may require verifying valve clearance and rod compatibility.

Q3: Does this kit include everything I need to install the piston?
A: Yes. It includes the piston, rings, 18mm wrist pin, and circlips.

Q4: What is the wrist pin size and is it standard?
A: The wrist pin is 18mm (approx. 0.709"). This is standard for many clone engines, but some models may use a smaller 15mm pin. Measure before ordering.

Q5: Can I use this piston with a stroker crankshaft?
A: Possibly. You’ll need to verify piston deck height and ensure the added stroke does not cause piston-to-head contact. Match with a rod that offsets the additional stroke if needed.

Q6: What’s the total piston weight?
A: Approximately 202 grams including rings and pin.

Q7: How do I check if the compression height is correct for my build?
A: Measure from the center of the wrist pin to the top of the piston (compression height), and compare it to your current piston. If it differs significantly, you may need to adjust rod length or piston selection.
