Description

PWK24 24mm Slide Carburetor – Methanol Tuned for Honda Clone Engines

The PWK24 Methanol Slide Carburetor is a performance-tuned, 24mm bore carburetor designed specifically for high-performance Honda-clone engines, including Tillotson, Predator, Wildcat, Ducar, and original Honda GX200 platforms running methanol fuel.

Built around a D-shaped flat slide, the PWK24 delivers smoother airflow and faster throttle response compared to traditional round slide carburetors. This enhanced flow dynamic offers more consistent tuning and improved low-to-midrange response, especially on modified engines.

Despite its compact 24mm bore, the PWK24 flows approximately 107 CFM at 28 inches of water, making it more than capable of supporting stock and big-valve ported cylinder heads. It's an ideal upgrade for engines that need crisp throttle response and optimal air-fuel delivery on methanol.

Now Includes:

  • Velocity Stack / Air Filter Adapter for standard 2.5-inch air filters
  • Tuned for use only with a fuel pumpgravity feed not supported

Recommended Engine Specs:

To get the most out of your PWK24, we recommend pairing it with the following engine configuration:

  • Displacement: 223cc – 236cc
  • Camshaft: .290" lift or greater, with 240°+ duration
  • Ignition Timing: 34°–38°
  • Cylinder Head: Ported head with 27mm or larger intake valve

 Important Note on Tuning:

All carburetors are influenced by barometric pressure, temperature, humidity, and elevation. Each PWK24 is pre-calibrated for optimal methanol performance, but you may need to fine-tune jetting based on local conditions and your specific engine setup.

Compatibility & Fuel Delivery:

This carburetor is not compatible with gravity-fed fuel systems. A pulse or mechanical fuel pump is required for proper operation on methanol.

FAQ

Q1: Does the intake match the d-shape port of my engine?
A: The intake is specifically designed for the Tillotson JT-207 d-shaped port. However, slight variations can occur depending on the brand of the cylinder head and engine model. Notably, the Ducar 212, Tillotson 212E, and Ghost 212 engines use the Ducar Hemi Head, which has a slightly mismatched port. In these cases, some port matching or modification may be necessary to ensure a proper fit and optimal performance.

Q2: What is the barb fitting on the intake used for?
A: The barb fitting is designed to provide a vacuum signal for external fuel pumps. It is the recommended location to obtain the vacuum pulse needed to operate a fuel pump because it provides a more consistent and reliable pulse than other locations such as the crankcase or valve cover.

Q3: Is this carburetor suitable for gravity feed or fuel pump systems?
A: The carburetor works with both gravity feed and fuel pump setups:

  • Gravity Feed: The fuel tank outlet must be positioned higher than the carburetor’s fuel inlet for proper fuel flow. Often, the stock tank is too low, requiring the tank to be raised. When relocating or using a remote tank, keep it within a couple of feet of the carburetor. Avoid placing the tank too high, as excess fuel pressure can force the inlet valve open, causing a rich fuel condition.

  • Fuel Pump: Use a round-style vacuum-operated fuel pump such as the Walbro FPC-1 for best results. Avoid electric pumps or dual-feed pumps, as excessive fuel pressure can cause the inlet valve to stay open, resulting in a rich condition.

Q4: How does this carburetor compare to the VM22 Chikuni (Chinese Mikuni) carburetors?
A: The PWK carburetor is generally superior in tuning capability, idle quality, throttle response, and overall power delivery compared to most round-slide VM22 Chikuni carburetors. This results in a smoother and more consistent engine performance.

Q5: Are there any performance differences between the PWK and VM22 Chikuni carburetors when both are properly tuned?
A: When optimally tuned, the performance differences between PWK and VM22 carburetors are marginal. However, the PWK carburetor often represents better value due to its typically lower price point, combined with ease of tuning and reliable performance.

Q6: How does this carburetor compare to Tillotson or diaphragm carburetors?
A: Tillotson and other diaphragm carburetors, when specifically designed and tuned for an application, can offer performance and tuning benefits. However, these carburetors often struggle with idle quality and can be finicky on 4-cycle engines if not used correctly. For most users, especially outside of kart racing, a bowl-style carburetor like the PWK is recommended for better throttle response, ease of tuning, and reliable idle.

Q7: Can I use this carburetor on any engine size or setup?
A: The PWK24 carburetor is best suited for engines in the 223-236cc range, with ported heads (27mm+ intake valves) and camshafts with at least 290 lift and 240 duration. It is designed primarily for methanol fuel and requires a fuel pump system for optimal operation.

Q8: Will atmospheric conditions affect carburetor tuning?
A: Yes. Barometric pressure, humidity, temperature, and elevation can all impact carburetor performance. While the carburetor is jetted for general applications, additional tuning may be necessary to adapt to your specific environmental conditions for peak performance.
