Description

Tillotson 95-170 Silver Fine Fuel Strainer Screen

The Tillotson 95-170 Silver Fuel Strainer Screen is a genuine OEM internal fuel filter designed to fit under the fuel inlet cap and cork gasket of Tillotson carburetors. This fine mesh screen provides an extra layer of protection by trapping larger particles before they enter the fuel circuit, helping maintain cleaner fuel delivery in gasoline-powered setups.

The silver screen features a finer mesh than the brass version, making it the standard choice for single-stack or gas pump plate carburetors used in standard-volume fuel systems. It is commonly used in 2-cycle racing engines running gasoline and is often a regulated tech item. If you’re racing, be sure to check the rules and carburetor specs before installing.

While the screen does filter larger particles, we highly recommend using an additional inline fuel filter to capture finer debris and ensure full protection of your fuel system.

Note: For methanol-fueled engines or high-volume (double-stack) carburetors, consider using the brass strainer screen (P/N 95-174) for better flow characteristics.

FAQ

Q1: What is the purpose of the Tillotson 95-170 Silver Fuel Strainer Screen?
A: It acts as an internal fuel screen that filters out larger debris before fuel enters the carburetor circuit. It is mounted under the fuel inlet cap and cork gasket.

Q2: How does the silver screen compare to the brass screen?
A: The silver screen has a finer mesh, providing better filtration but slightly more restriction. It’s ideal for gasoline setups. The brass screen is coarser and recommended for high-flow methanol systems.

Q3: Do I still need an inline fuel filter?
A: Yes. The internal screen only catches larger particles. An inline fuel filter is strongly recommended to trap finer debris and protect the engine fully.

Q4: What carburetors is this screen compatible with?
A: It fits Tillotson HL, HR, HB, HW, HM, HX, and HD series carburetors. It’s also stock in a wide range of models including HL-132H, HL-229F, HL-334WX, HW-12A, HB-11A, and more.

Q5: Is this screen allowed in 2-cycle racing?
A: Yes. The silver screen is commonly used and often required in 2-cycle gasoline racing classes. Always check your specific tech rules before racing.

Q6: Should I use this for methanol setups?
A: No. If you’re running methanol or a high-volume fuel system, use the brass screen (P/N 95-174) instead for less fuel flow restriction.
