Description

Maxima Racing Oil Synthetic Valvetrain Spray Lube – Methanol Racing Engine & Honda Clone Valve Train Lubricant

Protect Your Valvetrain Before the Engine Starts

Maxima Racing Oil Synthetic Valvetrain Spray Lube is a 100% synthetic aerosol lubricant formulated to protect high-performance valvetrain components from friction, wear, corrosion, and galling during engine startup and high-RPM operation.

For Honda Clone racing engines, Predator, Tillotson, Wildcat, Ducar, and other small engines used in karting and mini bike racing, this spray provides an easy way to lubricate critical upper-valvetrain components before the engine is started—particularly after an engine has been sitting, during break-in, or following exposure to methanol fuel. The ester-fortified, extreme-pressure formula quickly adheres to metal surfaces and helps provide lubrication before engine oil has fully reached the upper valvetrain. It is ideal for valve springs, rocker arms, pushrod ends, and other exposed valvetrain components.

Why Use Valvetrain Spray Lube on Honda Clone Racing Engines?

Most Honda GX200-style Clone engines used in karting and mini bikes rely heavily on splash lubrication. During startup, engine oil must make its way from the crankcase to the upper portions of the engine, meaning the valvetrain can have limited lubrication until oil circulation is established.

A light application of synthetic valvetrain spray before startup helps provide additional protection during this critical period.

It is especially useful on engines that:

  • Have been sitting unused
  • Are being started for the first time
  • Are undergoing break-in
  • Run high RPM
  • Use aggressive valve springs and camshafts
  • Run methanol-based racing fuel
  • Are stored between races or during the off-season

Excellent Protection for Methanol Racing Engines

One of the most important uses for this product at EC Racing Products is protecting methanol-fueled Honda Clone racing engines from corrosion.

Methanol racing fuel can be particularly challenging for small-engine fuel systems and internal engine components. After racing, simply leaving methanol in the fuel system can contribute to corrosion and other storage-related problems.

Rather than relying on a traditional top-end lubricant mixed into the fuel, we recommend using a proper fuel-system flushing and engine-storage procedure.

Our Recommended Methanol Engine Procedure

After running a methanol racing engine:

  1. Remove the methanol from the fuel tank.
  2. Run an appropriate racing oil with dispersive additives(Maxima Racing Oil RS or  Performance 10w-40)through the engine as part of your flushing procedure.
  3. Flush the carburetor and fuel system by starting the engine running on 2-cycle mix(Maxima Castor 927) or 8oz of Marvel’s Mystery Oil per 1/2 gallon of non-ethanol gasoline. Run until the engine runs rough or is puffing black exhaust.
  4. Remove the valve cover.
  5. Apply a light coating of Maxima Racing Oil Valvetrain Spray Lube to the valve springs, rocker arms, pushrod ends, and other exposed valvetrain components.
  6. Reinstall the valve cover and store the engine appropriately.

This gives you an additional layer of protection against corrosion on critical valvetrain components without introducing a conventional top-end fuel lubricant into the carburetor and fuel system.

Why not simply add top-end lubricant to methanol?
Some fuel lubricants can leave deposits or gum up components in small-engine fuel systems and carburetors. This can be particularly problematic with diaphragm-style carburetors such as Tillotson carburetors and can make subsequent tuning more difficult.

Ideal for Race-Day Startup Protection

This isn't just a storage product. Maxima Valvetrain Spray Lube is also useful between race sessions. For engines that are being run through practice, qualifying, heat races, and feature events, a light spray under the valve cover can provide additional lubrication before the next startup. It's particularly useful when the engine has been sitting long enough for most of the engine oil to drain back into the crankcase.

Great for:

  • Practice-to-qualifying maintenance
  • Between heat races
  • Race-day engine preparation
  • Engines that sit between sessions
  • High-RPM racing engines
  • Methanol-fueled racing engines

Protect New Engines During Break-In

Factory-built engines typically aren't assembled with the same assembly lubricant used throughout a professionally built racing engine. A light application of Maxima Synthetic Valvetrain Spray Lube can provide additional lubrication to the upper valvetrain before the first startup and during initial operation. The synthetic formulation and extreme-pressure additives provide lubrication without requiring a heavy coating of assembly lubricant. Apply lightly. The purpose is to lubricate the valvetrain—not saturate the engine with oil.

Perfect for Engines in Storage

Whether you're putting a race engine away for the winter or your mini bike has been sitting in the garage for several weeks, valvetrain spray is an easy way to provide additional startup protection. As engine oil drains back toward the crankcase during storage, less oil may remain on exposed valvetrain components. Rather than tilting a mounted engine to allow crankcase oil to reach the valvetrain, simply remove the valve cover and apply a light spray before startup.

This is especially convenient on engines already installed in:

  • Go-karts
  • Mini bikes
  • Race mowers
  • Small recreational vehicles
  • Custom engine applications

Protect the valvetrain before the engine starts.

FAQ

What is Maxima Synthetic Valvetrain Spray Lube used for?

Maxima Synthetic Valvetrain Spray Lube is a 100% synthetic, ester-fortified aerosol lubricant designed to reduce friction, protect against wear, and lubricate valve springs, rocker arms, pushrod ends, and other upper-valvetrain components.

Why is valvetrain lubrication important on Honda Clone racing engines?

Honda GX200-style Clone engines use splash lubrication, and the valvetrain can be one of the last areas to receive adequate oil during startup. A light application of Maxima Valvetrain Lube provides additional lubrication and protection during startup and operation.

Is this lubricant recommended for methanol racing engines?

Yes. One of the most useful applications is protecting the valvetrain of methanol-fueled racing engines from corrosion. Methanol can contribute to corrosion when fuel residue and moisture remain in the engine after racing.

Can I use Maxima Valvetrain Lube instead of a fuel-system top-end additive?

For methanol engines, it can be a preferred alternative for protecting the valvetrain after the fuel system has been flushed. Rather than adding a top-end lubricant directly to the fuel, flush the methanol from the fuel system, carburetor, and cylinder, then apply Maxima Valvetrain Lube directly to the critical valvetrain components.

Can I use this on Tillotson diaphragm carburetor engines?

Yes. The lubricant is applied directly to the engine's valvetrain rather than added to the fuel. This can help avoid introducing additional additives into the fuel system that may contribute to deposits or gum formation, which is particularly important with diaphragm-style carburetors.

Will Maxima Valvetrain Lube affect engine break-in or ring seal?

A light application to the upper valvetrain should not interfere with normal piston ring break-in or ring seal. The lubricant is intended for the valve springs, rocker arms, pushrod ends, and related upper-valvetrain components rather than the cylinder walls.

Can I use it before a race or between heats?

Yes. A light spray can be useful as part of normal race-day maintenance, including before starting the engine for the day or between practice, qualifying, and heat sessions. Avoid excessive application.

Can I use Maxima Valvetrain Lube when storing my racing engine?

Yes. It is particularly useful for engines that will sit unused for several weeks or during the off-season. After flushing methanol from the engine, apply a light coating to exposed valvetrain components before storage.

What engine components can I spray with this lubricant?

It is suitable for upper-valvetrain components including:

  • Valve springs
  • Rocker arms and rocker assemblies
  • Pushrod ends
  • Other exposed metal surfaces within the valvetrain

Always follow the engine manufacturer's recommendations and avoid spraying components where lubricant contamination could be undesirable.

How much Maxima Valvetrain Lube should I use?

A light, even coating is sufficient. The goal is to lubricate and protect the components—not saturate the engine oil.
