Description

Tillotson 228R Short Block Assembled - Performance Upgrade for Racing Engines

The Tillotson 228R Short Block is a high-performance engine component, expertly assembled by EC, designed to deliver superior power and durability for racing applications. Built using the Tillotson 72mm block and 72mm piston assembly, this short block offers increased displacement and compression compared to the Tillotson 225R/RS engine, thanks to a 1mm longer stroke. Whether you're upgrading an existing engine or building a custom one, the 228R short block is a robust foundation for a high-output engine.

Key Features & Components:

  • 72mm Tillotson Block – Precision-engineered for optimal performance.
  • 72mm Tillotson Piston Assembly – Increases displacement and compression for enhanced power.
  • 56mm Stroke Crankshaft – Provides a longer stroke for better torque and performance.
  • EC Pinnacle Billet Rod – Offers superior strength and durability for high-performance racing.
  • Stock Side Cover – Ensures a proper seal and keeps engine components secure.

This 228R Short Block is the perfect replacement for the Tillotson 225R/RS or can be used as part of EC's complete 228R engine build. It can be customized further with your choice of camshaft, cylinder head, carburetor assembly, ignition system, flywheel, blower housing, and recoil starter.

Compatibility:

  • Cylinder Heads: Compatible with most aftermarket cylinder heads. Please note that the Predator 212 Non-Hemi uses a different size dowel, so ensure compatibility before purchase.
  • Push Rods: Stock push rods or stock-length push rods can be used with Parallel Valve (Non-Hemi) cylinder heads and stock-length valves.
  • Flywheel Compatibility: The flywheel taper is the same as a Honda/Clone, making this short block compatible with most flywheels (e.g., Tillotson, Ducar, Ghost, Predator 224) except for Predator 212 models.
  • Camshaft Compatibility: The camshaft journal is designed to fit Honda/Clone camshafts, ensuring compatibility with Tillotson, Ducar, Ghost, Predator 224, and others (excluding Predator 212 Non-Hemi).

Engine Break-In and Maintenance:

The Tillotson 228R Short Block is fully assembled and ready for installation. However, it has not been run, so Maxima Racing 0w-16 Break-In Oil and Maxima Racing 0w-20 RS Oil are highly recommended for optimal performance and longevity during the break-in period.

Upgrade your engine's performance with the Tillotson 228R Short Block — the perfect choice for racers seeking increased displacement, higher compression, and top-tier performance.

FAQ

1. What is included in the Tillotson 228R Short Block Assembled kit?
The Tillotson 228R Short Block Assembled includes a 72mm Tillotson block, 72mm Tillotson piston assembly, 56mm stroke crankshaft, EC Pinnacle billet rod, and a stock side cover. This kit is designed for high-performance racing engines and is fully assembled for ease of installation.

2. What engines is the Tillotson 228R Short Block compatible with?
The 228R Short Block is designed as a direct replacement for the Tillotson 225R/RS and can also be used in EC’s complete 228R engine builds. It is compatible with most aftermarket cylinder heads, but please note that Predator 212 Non-Hemi engines use a different dowel size, which may require modifications.

3. Can I use this short block with my stock flywheel and camshaft?
Yes, the Tillotson 228R Short Block has a flywheel taper and camshaft journal that is compatible with Honda/Clone parts, including Tillotson, Ducar, Ghost, Predator 224 flywheels and camshafts (excluding Predator 212 Non-Hemi). You can use most standard aftermarket components.

4. Do I need to purchase additional parts to complete the build?
Yes, you can customize your engine by selecting components such as a camshaft, cylinder head, carburetor assembly, ignition system, flywheel, blower housing, and recoil starter. These parts are sold separately, allowing you to tailor the engine for your specific racing needs.

5. What kind of oil should I use for the break-in period?
During the break-in period, we highly recommend using Maxima Racing 0w-16 Break-In Oil for initial engine running, followed by Maxima Racing 0w-20 RS Oil for regular use. This ensures the best performance and protection for the engine components.

6. What modifications might be required for different camshafts or cylinder heads?
If you change the camshaft, cylinder head, or other components that affect valve geometry, you may need to adjust the push rod length. The stock push rods or stock-length push rods work with Parallel Valve (Non-Hemi) cylinder heads and stock-length valves. Custom setups may require different push rod lengths.
