Description

EC’s Stage 3 Performance Kit for Tillotson 212R Engines

Achieve Tillotson 225R-Level Power—Without the Price Tag

Looking to take your Tillotson 212R engine to the next level? The EC Stage 3 Performance Kit delivers big power gains with a carefully selected combination of race-proven components. Designed to match the performance of the Tillotson 225R—and even outperform the 212RS—this kit gives you aggressive horsepower, increased torque, and higher RPM potential at a much lower cost than replacing your entire engine.

Perfect for mini bikes, go-karts, and competitive racing, this kit is built for enthusiasts seeking top-end speed, durability, and throttle response from their existing Tillotson 212R engine.

Why Upgrade to EC's Stage 3 Kit?

The biggest leap from Stage 2 to Stage 3 lies in the high-flow carburetor and aggressive camshaft. These two core components drastically improve performance above 4500 RPM, unlocking faster acceleration, a broader powerband, and more RPM ceiling—ideal for sprint racing, short tracks, and high-rev builds.

  • Recommended Clutch Engagement: 3800–5000 RPM
  • Minimum Engagement: 3500 RPM

What’s Included in the Stage 3 Performance Kit

1. Wildcat WC22 Round Slide Carburetor Kit

  • Based on the popular PZ26 design, but re-engineered with original casting and custom fuel calibration.
  • Flows approx. 85 CFM—perfect for ported heads and high-performance builds.
  • Designed to optimize fuel delivery on GX200, Clone, and Tillotson-based engines.
  • ?? Pro Tip: Port your cylinder head to fully realize the carburetor’s potential.

2. TTS-265 Banzai Camshaft + 26lb Valve Springs

  • Proven .265” lift camshaft with a broad powerband from 4500–7000+ RPM.
  • Dominates in sprint kart racing, street performance, and mini bike builds.
  • Same cam profile used in the powerful Tillotson 225RS engine.

3. Rev Wheel Billet Flywheel

  • Lightweight billet aluminum with low-drag fin design.
  • Built-in 34° ignition timing and neodymium magnets for stronger spark energy.
  • Enhances throttle response and peak torque.

4. EC 3.303 Pinnacle Forged Connecting Rod

  • Designed for engines spinning 5500+ RPM.
  • Adds critical durability to the rotating assembly for high-RPM abuse.
  • Precision-balanced for performance and longevity.

5. 70mm Fire Ring Head Gasket

  • Composite fire-ring gasket handles thermal expansion and resists blowouts.
  • More reliable than thin steel gaskets—especially important in performance engines with aluminum blocks and heads.

6. Replacement Side Cover Gasket

  • Included to prevent downtime during cam installation.
  • Ensures a clean reseal during reassembly.

Important Header Note (Exhaust Not Included)

To offer maximum flexibility, headers are not included in this kit.

  • Compatible with headers featuring .870" or larger inside diameter
  • Optimal ID for peak power: .930"–.960" (open header, no muffler)
  • If required to run a muffler, we recommend the 4106 RLV Muffler

Do NOT use screw-on lawnmower mufflers or restrictive “weenie” pipe setups—they will significantly reduce performance.

Recommended Oil & Spark Plug Setup

Engine Oil:

  • Break-In: Maxima 5W-16
  • Running: Maxima RS 0W-20

Recommended Spark Plug:

  • Torch K7RTI Fine Wire Iridium
    • Enhances starting, throttle response, and spark efficiency.
    • Gap: .026"–.032"

Avoid Autolite 3910X plugs – While popular, they often foul prematurely in gasoline engines, causing misfires, poor starting, and tuning headaches.

FAQ

Q1: What performance gains can I expect from the Stage 3 Kit on my Tillotson 212R?

The Stage 3 Kit significantly improves high-RPM performance, increasing horsepower and torque between 4500–7000+ RPM. With proper tuning and a ported head, this kit can match or even exceed the performance of the Tillotson 225R, all at a lower cost.

Q2: Will this kit outperform a Tillotson 212RS?

Yes. The combination of a high-flow WC22 carburetor, TTS-265 camshaft, billet flywheel, and forged rod allows the engine to rev higher and produce more usable power across the band than a stock 212RS engine.

Q3: Is this kit compatible with a stock Tillotson 212R block and head?

Yes, it is designed specifically for the Tillotson 212R platform. However, we strongly recommend porting the cylinder head to take full advantage of the WC22 carburetor’s airflow capabilities.

Q4: What RPM should my clutch engage at with this setup?

We recommend a clutch engagement between 3800–5000 RPM, with 3500 RPM as the absolute minimum. This ensures the engine is in its powerband when the clutch engages.

Q5: Is the Wildcat WC22 carburetor a real Mikuni?

No, it is not a Mikuni. The WC22 is based on the PZ26 architecture but features EC's original casting and fuel calibration, designed specifically for GX200/Clone/Tillotson engines to deliver optimal flow and throttle response.

Q6: Do I need to replace my header to use this kit?

Possibly. The Stage 3 Kit is designed to work with headers that have at least a .870” inside diameter, with best results typically seen with .930”–.960” ID open headers. If your current header doesn’t meet these specs, we recommend upgrading.

Q7: Why is the 70mm Fire Ring Head Gasket better than a thin metal one?

The fire ring gasket is more heat-tolerant and durable, especially in aluminum engines. It allows for thermal expansion and contraction while maintaining a reliable seal, reducing the risk of blown head gaskets during hard use.

Q8: What oil and spark plug should I use for best results?

  • Break-in oil: Maxima 5W-16
  • Running oil: Maxima RS 0W-20
  • Recommended spark plug: Torch K7RTI Iridium (gapped at .026"–.032")
Avoid using Autolite 3910X spark plugs, which are prone to fouling in gas-powered builds.

Q9: Is this kit legal for racing classes?

This kit may not be legal in all racing classes due to the non-stock carburetor and camshaft. Always check your class or sanctioning body’s rulebook before installing.

Q10: Do I need to modify my engine to install this kit?

Basic mechanical knowledge is needed, including camshaft replacement, flywheel installation, and setting valve lash. While no machining is required, porting your head is highly recommended for full performance gains.
