Description

Lightweight Lash Cap for 5.5mm Valve Stems – High-RPM Performance Upgrade.

Maximize RPM and valvetrain reliability with EC’s Lightweight Lash Cap, specifically designed for clone engines running 5.5mm valve stems. By reducing weight at the valve tip, this lash cap helps improve rev rpm limitation, reduce valve float, and stabilize the valvetrain at high engine speeds.

Even small reductions in valvetrain mass can translate to big gains. Every gram trimmed from the valve side of the valvetrain is worth up to 40 RPM—making this a crucial upgrade for serious racers.

Why Upgrade to a Lightweight Lash Cap?

  • Precision Weight Savings
    – .85–1.0g average (vs. 1.9–2.2g for stock caps)
  • Higher RPM Capability
    – Reduces inertial mass and valve float risk
  • Durable Construction
    – Designed for repeated high-RPM abuse
  • Improved Valve Control
    – Enhances reliability and engine longevity in race conditions

Specifications:

  • Material: Lightweight hardened steel alloy
  • Thickness: 0.880”
  • Weight: ~0.85–1.0 grams
  • Sold Individually: 1 Lash Cap per order

Fitment & Compatibility:

Fits 5.5mm valve stems, including:

  • Honda GX200/Clone 196cc
  • Predator 212 Hemi
  • Predator 224 Non-Hemi
  • Heads Built with 5.5mm stem valve

Note: Ducar 212, Ghost 212 and Tillotson 212E heads may use 5.5mm valves that taper to 5mm for retainer hardware. These lash caps not fit those valves.

Ideal For:

  • Mini bikes and go-karts running high-lift cams
  • Race engines exceeding 7,000+ RPM
  • Builders focused on reducing valvetrain mass
  • Engines with dual springs or aggressive cam profiles
  • Needs for Titanium Valves to prevent galling and wear

FAQ

Q1: What does a lash cap do?

A: A lash cap sits on top of the valve stem and protects it from wear while providing a smooth, stable contact surface for the rocker arm. In high-RPM engines, a lightweight lash cap also helps reduce valvetrain mass, increasing reliability and top-end performance.

Q2: Will this lash cap fit my Predator 212?

A: Yes, if your Predator 212 is a Hemi version with 5.5mm valve stems, this lash cap will fit. It also fits most Honda GX200 clones and other engines using true 5.5mm valve stems.

Q3: What engines are not compatible?

A: Some engines like the Ducar 212, Ghost 212, and Tillotson 212E use 5.5mm valves that taper to 5mm at the tip for retainer fitment. This lash cap will not work with those hybrid-style valve stems.

Q4: Why should I use a lightweight lash cap over a stock one?

A: Stock lash caps can weigh up to 2.2 grams, whereas this lightweight version weighs approximately 0.85–1.0 grams. Every gram saved on the valve tip can increase the safe operating RPM by up to 40 RPM, reducing the chance of valve float and improving throttle response.

Q5: Is this lash cap good for titanium valves?

A: Absolutely. Lash caps are highly recommended for titanium valves, which are softer and more prone to tip wear or galling. This cap adds a protective layer and improves durability in aggressive race setups.

Q6: How many lash caps do I need for my engine?

A: Each lash cap is sold individually, so you will need two for a single-cylinder engine—one for the intake valve and one for the exhaust valve.
