Description

Wildcat 460cc Long Block Assembly – Pull Start

The Wildcat 460cc Big Block Long Block Assembly is a high-displacement, high-torque foundation built for serious performance applications and custom builds. At its core is a heavy-duty reinforced crankcase with a 10-bolt side cover, delivering substantially greater strength and rigidity than standard big-block clone engines. This makes it an ideal starting point for racing, heavy recreational use, and fully customized engine builds.

Unlike complete engines, the long block configuration removes bulky, restrictive, and commonly discarded components, giving builders exactly what they want: a strong, complete internal engine assembly without paying for parts they won’t use. By eliminating unnecessary external components, the Wildcat 460 long block reduces weight, shipping cost, and wasted parts, making it the most efficient way to start a performance build.

Big block engines are known for producing tremendous low-end torque, and the Wildcat 460 excels where torque and durability matter most. It is well-suited for golf carts, mud boats, utility vehicles, and competitive platforms such as UAS karts, racing lawn mowers, and Mini Cup cars.

Loosely based on the Honda GX390 architecture, the Wildcat 460cc is one of the largest displacement big-block clone platforms available, outperforming comparable 390cc, 420cc, and 440cc engines in torque output, power potential, and structural strength.

What’s Removed in the Long Block Assembly?

To reduce cost, size, and shipping weight, the Wildcat 460 Long Block does not include the following stock components:

  • Fuel tank
  • Flywheel
  • Air box
  • Charging coils
  • Electric starter
  • Starter box

Despite these removals, the engine remains fully assembled internally, including the internal governor, ensuring you still receive the core durability and performance expected from a Wildcat 460 platform.

Large Bore & Long Stroke Performance

The Wildcat 460 features a 92mm bore, one of the largest bores available in a big-block clone engine. A flat-top piston increases compression and improves flame propagation, resulting in more efficient combustion and increased power potential.

Complementing the large bore is a 69mm stroke crankshaft, longer than most big-block clone engines. The added stroke improves piston speed and port velocity while increasing mechanical leverage at the crankshaft—delivering exceptional low- and mid-range torque, exactly where big block engines excel.

Engine Specifications

  • Displacement: 460cc
  • Bore: 92mm
  • Stroke: 69mm
  • Deck Height: ~175mm / 6.890"
  • Compression Ratio: ~8.85:1
    • ~10:1 with EC 8272 Billet Connecting Rod
  • Output Shaft: 1"
  • EPA Rated Horsepower: 16 HP
    • Actual horsepower will vary based on dyno calibration, correction factors, and testing procedure. For accurate comparison, engines should be tested on the same dyno under identical conditions.

Engine Mounting Bolt Pattern

  • Wildcat 460 Bolt Spacing:
    • 8.5" (length)
    • 3.5"–4" (width, slotted)
  • Standard GX390 / Predator 420 Bolt Pattern:
    • 7-5/8" × 3-3/8" (center-to-center)

The Wildcat 460 uses a wider mounting pattern than standard GX390 and most 7-bolt clone engines. Verify chassis compatibility prior to installation.

Aftermarket Compatibility

Compatible with most Honda GX390 and Big Block Clone aftermarket components, including:

  • Flywheels
  • Camshafts
  • Crankshafts (including stroker applications)
  • Cylinder heads (92mm bore head gasket required)
  • Hardware and bearings

Note: This engine uses a 10-bolt block and requires a 10-bolt side cover and gasket.

Connecting Rod Recommendation

While many GX390/clone billet connecting rods will physically fit, we strongly recommend the EC 8272 Billet Connecting Rod. Advantages include:

  • Improved clearance between the dipper and crank counterweights
  • Better geometry for high-RPM and high-load operation
  • Increased piston height toward zero deck for higher compression

Warranty & Intended Use Notice

This engine is intended for performance applications and modification. Due to its racing-oriented design and use, no warranty is offered.

FAQ

What is a long block, and how is it different from a complete engine?

A long block is a fully assembled internal engine without many external components. The Wildcat 460 Long Block includes the complete rotating assembly, crankshaft, piston, camshaft, and internal components, but excludes parts commonly removed during performance builds, such as the flywheel, fuel system, and starting components.

This allows builders to start with a strong foundation without paying for parts they won’t use.

What components are NOT included with the long block?

The Wildcat 460 Long Block does not include:

  • Fuel tank
  • Flywheel
  • Air box
  • Charging coils
  • Electric starter
  • Starter box

All internal engine components remain installed and assembled.

Is the internal governor still installed?

Yes. The long block retains the internal governor as delivered. Builders planning performance use may choose to remove or modify it during final assembly.

What components do I need to add to make this engine run?

At a minimum, you will need:

  • Flywheel
  • Carburetor and intake
  • Fuel system
  • Exhaust system
  • Ignition components
  • Starting method (pull-start or alternative)

Additional components may be required depending on your application and performance goals.

What applications is this long block best suited for?

The Wildcat 460 Long Block is ideal for:

  • Custom racing engine builds
  • Golf carts and utility vehicles
  • Mud boats
  • UAS karts
  • Racing lawn mowers
  • Mini Cup and similar platforms

It is intended for users who plan to modify and configure the engine for specific performance needs.

How does the Wildcat 460 long block compare to GX390 or Predator 420 engines?

The Wildcat 460 long block offers:

  • Larger displacement (460cc)
  • A massive 92mm bore
  • A longer 69mm stroke
  • A reinforced 10-bolt block

Compared to GX390, Predator 420, and 440 engines, it provides greater torque, higher power potential, and improved durability.

Is this long block compatible with GX390 aftermarket parts?

Yes. The Wildcat 460 long block is compatible with most Honda GX390 and big block clone aftermarket components, including:

  • Flywheels
  • Camshafts
  • Crankshafts (including stroker cranks)
  • Cylinder heads (92mm bore head gasket required)
  • Bearings and hardware

Note: This is a 10-bolt block, requiring a 10-bolt side cover and gasket.

What bore and stroke does the Wildcat 460 long block use?

The Wildcat 460 uses a 92mm bore and a 69mm stroke, a combination that delivers excellent low- and mid-range torque and strong performance potential.

What is the compression ratio?

  • Stock compression: ~8.85:1
  • With EC 8272 billet connecting rod: ~10:1

Higher compression improves throttle response and overall power.

Which connecting rod do you recommend?

While many GX390-style billet rods will fit, we strongly recommend the EC 8272 billet connecting rod for:

  • Improved clearance between the dipper and crank counterweights
  • Better geometry for high-RPM operation
  • Increased piston height toward zero deck

What is the engine mounting bolt pattern?

The Wildcat 460 long block uses a wider mounting pattern than GX390 and Predator 420 engines:

  • 8.5" length x 3.5"–4" width (slotted)

Verify mounting compatibility before installation.

Is there a warranty on the Wildcat 460 long block?

No. This long block is intended for performance applications and modification, and no warranty is offered.

Why choose a long block instead of a complete engine?

A long block is the best option if you:

  • Plan to modify or replace most external components
  • Want to avoid paying for unused stock parts
  • Need lower shipping costs
  • Want a clean, performance-focused starting point

What should I know about shipping this long block?

Due to its size and weight, the Wildcat 460 long block ships as oversize freight:

  • Fully insured
  • Signature required upon delivery
  • Proof of ID may be required
  • Ships only to credit-card-verified addresses
