Description

EC XR-25 Intimidator Billet 1.00” Methanol Carburetor

Built for 208cc Limited Modified Clone Racing Engines

Engineered specifically for modern high-RPM methanol racing engines, the EC XR-25 Intimidator is the next evolution in diaphragm-style carburetors for the 208cc Limited Modified Clone class. Designed as a direct alternative to the increasingly scarce Tillotson HL-304WX, the XR-25 meets the same class intent while delivering improved durability, consistency, and race-ready blueprinting.

The 208cc Limited Modified Clone Class was developed in collaboration with Jerry Welch (Welch Performance) and DynoCams. The XR-25 was purpose-built to support the newly defined 208cc Limited Modified Clone class, ensuring racers have a reliable, competitive, and legal carburetor option moving forward.

Purpose-Built for 208cc Limited Modified Methanol Engines

The XR-25 is optimized for pure methanol operation on modern 208cc clone engines running 70mm bore × 54mm stroke combinations. While maintaining the same airflow intent as the HL-304WX, the XR-25 allowed EC to refine internal fuel circuits, strengthen critical components, and apply consistent CNC blueprinting—advantages not possible with legacy cast carburetors.

This carburetor is not a universal replacement—it is a class-focused racing component engineered for controlled airflow, clean fuel delivery, and repeatable tuning under race conditions.

Key Features of the EC XR-25 Intimidator

CNC Billet Body & Pump Stack

Fully machined from billet aluminum for precise fuel metering, increased rigidity, and superior durability compared to cast carburetors. The billet construction ensures consistent internal geometry and long service life.

Optimized Methanol Fuel Flow

Designed exclusively for pure methanol, the XR-25 delivers strong mid-to-top end power while reducing fuel overrun at idle—critical for maintaining oil quality and ring seal in high-RPM racing engines.

Upgraded 6mm Stainless Steel Throttle Shaft

Stronger and more wear-resistant than the 5.5mm brass shafts commonly found in Tillotson HL carburetors. Built to survive aggressive throttle action and sustained high RPM.

Hand-Assembled & Blueprinted in the USA

Every XR-25 is CNC-machined and hand-assembled in Tennessee, USA. No mass production—each carburetor is race-ready out of the box with consistent internal tolerances.

Integrated Stud-Mount Design

Simplifies installation and reduces mounting hardware. Designed specifically to pair with EC XR-Series billet intake manifolds for optimal signal strength and fuel delivery.

Expandable XR-Series Platform

For non-limited classes requiring additional airflow, the XR platform is also available in:

  • XR-28 (28mm)
  • XR-30 (30mm)
  • XR-32 (32mm)

XR-25-1K Intimidator Carburetor Kit Includes

  • XR-25 Billet Diaphragm Carburetor
    1.00” Bore / .900” Venturi
  • 494INT Billet Intake Manifold Kit
    • Intake & carb gaskets
    • Mounting hardware
    • Pulse fitting
  • EC Air Filter
  • External Fuel Pump

Application & Fitment

Designed For

  • 208cc Limited Modified Clone Engines
    (70mm Bore × 54mm Stroke – verify class rules)
  • Standard valve or ported cast cylinder heads

Fuel Type

  • Pure Methanol ONLY
    • No top-lube methanol
    • No E85
    • No pump gas

Recommended Fuel System Setup

Approved Fuel Pumps

  • Walbro FPC-1
  • EC TFPC-1 or TFPC-2

NOT Supported

  • Briggs & Stratton fuel pumps
  • Mikuni or Mikuni-style knockoffs
  • Plastic Walbro WIP knockoffs
  • Electric fuel pumps

Proper pulse signal and fuel volume are critical—do not substitute components.

Baseline Tuning Reference

  • High-Speed Needle: 1 turn out
  • Low-Speed Needle: 2.5 turns out
(Fine-tune for elevation, temperature, and engine setup)

Important Methanol Tuning Notes

  • Do not idle the engine
  • Diaphragm carbs on methanol run very rich at idle
  • Over-leaning the low side can cause hesitation or mid-range bog
  • Set idle speed screw so the butterfly just rests against the bore
  • Prevent stalling with light throttle blips to:
    • Reduce fuel overrun
    • Prevent cylinder wash
    • Minimize fuel contamination in oil

Pop-Off & Setup Specs

  • Pop-Off Pressure: 8.5–10 PSI
  • Fulcrum Arm Height: .065”

Important Notes

  • Requires a dedicated XR-Series intake, pulse-style fuel pump, and remote fuel system
  • Will not function correctly with stock clone fuel systems

Compatible with EC 494INT XR-Series billet intakes only

FAQ

Is the EC XR-25 legal for 208cc Limited Modified Clone classes?

The XR-25 was developed specifically to meet the intent of the 208cc Limited Modified Clone class as an alternative to the Tillotson HL-304WX. Always verify legality with your specific sanctioning body before competition.

What carburetor does the XR-25 replace?

The XR-25 is designed as a modern billet alternative to the Tillotson HL-304WX, which has become increasingly difficult to source.

What fuel can I run with the XR-25?

Pure methanol ONLY.

  • ? No top-lube methanol
  • ? No E85
  • ? No pump gas

Running incorrect fuel will cause poor performance and potential engine damage.

Can I use my stock clone fuel pump?

No. The XR-25 requires a pulse-style external fuel pump.

Approved pumps:

  • Walbro FPC-1
  • EC TFPC-1 or TFPC-2

Not supported:

  • Briggs fuel pumps
  • Mikuni or Mikuni-style pumps
  • Plastic Walbro WIP knockoffs
  • Electric fuel pumps

Does this carburetor work with stock intakes?

No. The XR-25 must be used with EC XR-Series billet intake manifolds, such as the included 494INT intake.

What engines is the XR-25 designed for?

  • 208cc Limited Modified clone engines
  • 70mm bore × 54mm stroke combinations
  • Standard valve or ported cast cylinder heads

Not intended for stock or box-stock clone engines.

What pop-off pressure should I run?

Recommended pop-off pressure is 8.5–10 PSI for proper fuel delivery and throttle response.

What are the baseline needle settings?

  • High-speed needle: 1 turn out
  • Low-speed needle: 2.5 turns out

Fine-tune based on elevation, temperature, and engine configuration.

Should I let the engine idle with this carburetor?

No. Diaphragm carburetors on methanol run extremely rich at idle.

  • Do not idle for extended periods
  • Use light throttle blips to prevent stalling
  • Helps avoid cylinder wash and oil contamination

Is the XR-25 rebuildable?

Yes. The XR-25 is fully serviceable and rebuildable using XR-series internal components.

Where is the XR-25 manufactured?

The XR-25 is CNC-machined and hand-assembled in Tennessee, USA.

Can I upgrade to a larger XR-series carb later?

Yes. The XR platform includes:

  • XR-28 (28mm)
  • XR-30 (30mm)
  • XR-32 (32mm)

These are intended for non-limited or open racing classes.
