Description

DynoCams 310-224 Camshaft For Modified Predator 224 & Wildcat 223 Racing Engines

The DynoCams 310-224 is a moderate-lift, long-duration racing camshaft engineered specifically for stock-appearing and airflow-restricted modified engines. Featuring extremely high duration with smoother, more stable lobe profiles, the 310 grind delivers strong mid-to-top-end power while maintaining valvetrain stability at elevated RPM—making it a preferred alternative to more aggressive low-lift grinds such as the F275.

Designed for full-out competition use, the 310-224 excels in combinations limited by carburetor size, cylinder head flow, or class rules, where maximizing airflow time is critical without compromising high-RPM reliability.

Performance Characteristics

  • Moderate lift with massive duration for airflow-restricted builds
  • Smoother lobe profiles for improved high-RPM stability
  • Strong top-end power with a wide usable race RPM range
  • Ideal for stock-appearing, limited modified, and restricted modified classes

Compared to more aggressive low-lift F275 profile, the 310 grind provides similar duration but with less valvetrain stress, allowing it to operate more reliably at sustained high RPM levels.

Carburetor & Valvetrain Pairing

The 310-224 performs exceptionally well with restricted or stock-appearing carburetor combinations, including:

  • 1" Tillotson / diaphragm carburetors (HL-334, HL-304)
  • High-flow stock-appearing carburetors such as EC PK875
  • GX390 / big-block style stock carburetors in applicable classes

Recommended Rocker Arm Ratios

  • 1.1 ratio – Stock-appearing combinations
  • 1.2–1.3 ratio – GX390 / big-block or 1" Tillotson builds
  • 1.4 ratio – Extreme race builds only
    • Requires billet or highly developed cast heads
    • Intended for 10,000+ RPM engines with 28mm+ carburetors

Increasing rocker ratio and valve lift shifts peak power higher in the RPM range.

Race-Only Application Notice

The 310-224 is not suitable for recreational or trail use. Due to its long duration and overlap, idle quality is extremely rough, off-idle response is reduced, and higher clutch engagement speeds are required. This camshaft is intended strictly for competition racing engines.

224-Core Design & Stroker Compatibility

All DynoCams 310-224 camshafts utilize a .550" journal 224-core, engineered for modern stroker combinations:

  • Narrowed lobes for rod clearance
  • Clearanced between lobes for 58mm stroke crankshafts
  • Thinner compression release to clear crank counterweights

This design allows use in stroked 196cc and 212cc engines without additional crankshaft clearancing.

Engine Compatibility

Direct-Fit Applications

  • Harbor Freight Predator 224cc Non-Hemi
  • Ducar 224cc Non-Hemi
  • Wildcat 223 Hemi
  • Wildcat 240 Non-Hemi

Fits Engines with .550" Cam Journals

  • Predator 212 Hemi
  • Tillotson 212E
  • Ducar 212
  • Honda GX200 / 196cc Clone

Important Stroker Note:
For 196cc or 212cc engines using a 58mm or longer crankshaft, a 224-core camshaft is required to prevent compression-release interference. The 310-224 fully meets this requirement.

Does NOT Fit

  • Predator 212 Non-Hemi
  • Predator 224 Hemi

Required Supporting Components

For safe operation within the intended RPM range, the following components are mandatory:

  • Billet connecting rod
  • Billet or aluminum flywheel

FAQ

What type of engines is the DynoCams 310-224 best suited for?

The 310-224 is designed for stock-appearing and airflow-restricted modified racing engines, especially combinations limited by carburetor size, cylinder head flow, or class rules.

How does the 310-224 compare to the F275 camshaft?

The 310-224 has similar duration to the F275 but features less aggressive lobe profiles, making it more stable at higher RPM while reducing valvetrain stress. This makes it better suited for sustained high-RPM racing.

Is the 310-224 suitable for recreational or trail engines?

No. Due to its very long duration and overlap, the 310-224 has rough idle, reduced off-idle response, and requires higher clutch engagement. It is intended strictly for racing applications.

What carburetors work best with the 310-224?

This cam works exceptionally well with:

  • 1" Tillotson / diaphragm carburetors (HL-304, HL-334)
  • High-flow stock-appearing carburetors (such as EC PK875)
  • GX390 / big-block style stock carburetors in restricted classes

What rocker arm ratios are recommended?

  • 1.1 ratio – Stock-appearing builds
  • 1.2–1.3 ratio – Restricted modified or big-block carb builds
  • 1.4 ratio – Extreme race-only builds with billet or highly developed heads

Higher rocker ratios shift peak power higher in the RPM range.

Will the 310-224 work in stroked engines?

Yes. The 310-224 uses a .550" journal 224-core, specifically designed for 58mm or longer stroke crankshafts, with:

  • Narrowed lobes for rod clearance
  • Clearanced lobes
  • Thinner compression release

This prevents compression-release interference in stroked 196cc and 212cc engines.

What engines does the 310-224 fit?

Direct-fit:

  • Predator 224cc Non-Hemi
  • Ducar 224cc Non-Hemi
  • Wildcat 223 Hemi
  • Wildcat 240 Non-Hemi

Also fits (.550" journal engines):

  • Predator 212 Hemi
  • Tillotson 212E
  • Ducar 212
  • Honda GX200 / 196cc clone

What engines does it NOT fit?

  • Predator 212 Non-Hemi
  • Predator 224 Hemi

What supporting parts are required?

For safe operation at high RPM, the following are mandatory:

  • Billet connecting rod
  • Billet or aluminum flywheel

What RPM range is the 310-224 designed for?

The target maximum RPM is up to 9,000 RPM, depending on valvetrain, cylinder head flow, and carburetor configuration.
