Here are some of our recommendations for builds for the Harbor Freight Ghost 212, Ducar 212, and Tillotson 212 Hemi. From time to time, as new parts are developed, you may find alterations to these lists, but the goal is to have the best available option to build the Ghost/Ducar/Tillotson 212E Hemi to your ideal goal and budget. Reference back to our builder's guide blog for descriptions of each goal. Under Each build goal is the parts list with links to those parts to make it easy to get the parts ordered.

The Ghost 212, Ducar 212, and Tillotson 212E are all the same base 212 engines(Same Rotating Assembly, Block, and Cylinder Head) made by Ducar. The Tillotson 212E is the most standard version with an EPA-regulated carburetor and cast iron flywheel. The Ducar 212 replaces the unreliable cast iron flywheel with a cast aluminum flywheel made by PVL and has a non-Epa carburetor that allows idle mixture adjustments, which allows more tuning opportunities. Both the Tillotson 212E and Ducar 212 retain the stock mechanical governor, but the Ghost 212 doesn't. Instead, it has a 6200rpm limited coil. If you're like us and hate removing and plugging the governor system, then the Ghost 212 is the best choice. Not to mention it uses a PZ22 slide carburetor vs. a stock-style carburetor and comes with much stiffer valve springs. The one immediate part you'll want to change is the cast iron flywheel. Luckily, we have cast aluminum flywheels at $40. In our opinion, Ghost 212 is equal to or greater than Ducar 212 > Tillotson 212E.
